Help! Where do I get some?
Whether you are a FIFO worker, a partner or a family member, or a supervisor or manager everyone could do with a bit of extra help sometimes. It doesn’t have to be a crisis. In fact its better to seek help early rather than wait until the ‘wheels fall off’! Think of it a bit like servicing your car; better done regularly to keep it running well than waiting until it breaks down.
So what are your choices?
EAP (Employee Assistance Programme)
Most companies have an EAP provider that employees and their immediate families can access. You can usually have several sessions with a counsellor at no cost. Find out who yours is and make sure your partner, husband or wife knows too! It is confidential and if you want to know more about your EAP service check out their website or give them a call.
Not sure who your EAP provider is? Check your company intranet or find out from HR. There may also be some posters or pamphlets around at your workplace.
GP
Your family doctor is a good person to talk to about counselling support. They maybe able to refer you to someone through medicare under a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan.
Private Health Insurance
Check out if your health cover includes psychological services. If so you will be eligible for a rebate when you see a registered psychologist or accredited mental health social worker.
