Planning Your Social Life
Matt is currently a drive in drive out (DIDO) truck driver, but has also experienced FIFO. As a young, single guy he explains why he had to re-evaluate friendships and his social life.
Matt also talks about frequently having to turn down invites to parties because he is working.
Gone too are the opportunities to be spontaneous and he has culled friendships that are not of real value. His social life is planned with military precision, often months in advance. It’s the only way he says; ‘I cant expect people to alway be working around me and I have to make the effort’.
In this interview Matt breaks down a typical week when on R & R. When you consider the number of hours people are available to see you if they are working, it’s not actually that many. So planning ahead is essential.
So whilst managing his social life can be challenging, Matt is able to use the time when friends are at work to follow his passion for photography. Matt is our official FIFO photographer and doing FIFO gives Matt the time to develop other talents. It is one of 8 essential ingredients for happiness; doing something you love or are passionate about!
