Does FIFO give you more quality time with your children?

I don’t know about you but I’m tired of hearing the comments about FIFO like; ‘ I don’t know how your partner/wife/husband can do FIFO and be away from the children’.

Whilst there is no doubt the time apart from family can be very challenging, but as Narelle describes in her interview working a ‘normal’ 9 tip 5 doesn’t necessarily mean more quality time with your children….

It can be a myth that FIFO means less time with your children. How many parents work long hours, perhaps leaving for work before young children are up and home after they are in bed. How many children are in child care weekdays because both parents need to work? How many other industries and professions require people to work away from home? Many businesses do, the fishing industry, health professionals, airline pilots and stewards, the defence forces and its long distance commuting is not new. I know most people I talk to do FIFO because they want a better life for their family and they make sacrifices to do so.

It’s not right or wrong, better or worse…just different. All that matters is that you make it work for you and your family and focus on the benefits.
