We interviewed Loraine when she had just started a FIFO job over in Queensland. Newly married too, Loraine talks about the challenges of returning home to Perth for R & R only to find the demands of catching up with friends and family was just exhausting. Far from returning to work refreshed, Loraine found she was more tired than ever!

Loraine’s solution was to plan R & R well and arrange more events such as picnics, where a group of people could come together, cutting down on catching up with friends and family members individually . This freed up more of her time for herself and her husband!

Many of you will no doubt relate to this challenge of managing your time and the demands placed upon you during your time off. Our interview with Loraine really highlights the importance of finding ways to manage this to ensure you really do get some rest and ‘down time’.

It can be hard for friends and family to realise just how demanding your work is, the long days and long swings, especially for those of you in construction. R & R is precious time and your time off.

Tell us about some of the demands and expectations that you have been met with on your break, but most importantly some ideas and tips for protecting your time and ensuring you get the rest you need.
